I understand if I pay double I can get something that is of better quality, but at the moment I don't know how far my child will go. If this piano can last until grade 7-8 I think it's worth the investment over a keyboard of the same price range. One of my pedals has broken after many years of use, but I was able to fix it with some wire and zip ties. Ideally it's better to get a real upright piano around that level, but the Privia has done quite well for what it cost. I have an older PX-800, and it's been a great digital piano up to about grade 7-8 piano. For a little kid who you don't know whether they are interested in pursuing piano in the long run it might be best to stick in the under $500 range.
